Join SMFM and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH) on Thursday, August 15 at 12 PM ET for a 1-hour webinar on the basics of utilizing Nurse Practitioners in MFM practices. During this webinar, Sue Kendig, Director of Practice and Policy at NPWH, will discuss ways in which NPs can be utilized in MFM practices and specialized clinics with SMFM members Dr. Niraj Chavan and Dr. Manijeh Kamyar. NPWH members Amanda McIntyre, WHNP-BC and Kristy Wienstroer, WHNP-BC will provide their perspectives and expertise from both urban and rural settings. Furthermore, attendees will engage with panelists through an interactive Q&A session led by SMFM members Dr. Suwan Mehra and Dr. Fadi Bsat. Registration is free for SMFM members.


Learning Objectives: 

1) Identify the key roles and responsibilities of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) practices and specialized clinics. Attendees will learn about the specific duties NPs can perform, how they can support MFM specialists, and the types of clinical tasks they are qualified to handle.

2) Understand effective strategies for integrating NPs into both urban and rural MFM settings. Attendees will learn various approaches for incorporating NPs into diverse practice environments, including collaboration techniques, workflow adjustments, and examples of successful integration in different practice settings.

3) Analyze the benefits and challenges of utilizing NPs in MFM practices, incorporating insights from experienced healthcare professionals. Attendees will gain insights into the advantages such as improved patient care and efficiency, as well as potential obstacles like training needs and scope of practice limitations.
