Description:

Tune in as Dr. Daniela Crousillat presents an MFM Fellow Lecture:  Two Beating Hearts: The Multidisciplinary Management of High-Risk Cardiac Pregnancies. This session will review contemporary approaches to identifying and managing high-risk pregnancies complicated by cardiovascular disease, with a focus on multidisciplinary care models. The session will highlight evidence-based strategies for risk stratification, delivery planning, and postpartum management to optimize maternal and fetal outcomes

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of maternal mortality and articulate the role of multidisciplinary cardio-obstetrics teams in improving outcomes.
  • Apply the modified World Health Organization (mWHO) risk classification to stratify maternal risk and guide counseling, referral, and site-of-care decisions.
  • Identify appropriate surveillance and monitoring strategies during pregnancy based on cardiac diagnosis and risk profile.
  • Develop a coordinated labor, delivery, and postpartum care plan incorporating timing, mode, delivery location, and transition to long-term cardiovascular care.
